Hmmm, need something catchy for here...
The AIR Demo Promised
Apr 3 by Michael Benner
OK, so the new site (http://www.bennr.com) is not going as smoothly as hoped, so I moved the article and app here.
My wife has finally threatened to leave me for another developer if I don't get her site finished, oh yeah, and it has to be the "COOLEST" site ever...Well, damn, I am a keyboard cowboy who doesn't have the slightest flair for design (have you seen this site), and
she is in an industry all about design. Yup, she is a photographer, here is a sample of her amazing work (Blog and Flickr Account), but I digress, back to the "COOLEST" site ever. What can I do to impress her and not lose her to that Hip Young Flash guy?
I know, I can make it easy to use. What has been her biggest gripe, ah yes, file upload to websites. What about being able to do that from technology I know, or better yet, just really started toying with. Yup, AIR!!!
So, last week was Adobe's Online Developers Seminars and one of the best (that I attended) was AIR Native Drag n Drop. So why admittedly I highjacked some of the demo code he used, I took it in another direction. What if, as you dragged items into a little AIR box, they thumbnailed (just for appearances), queued up and began fading as they uploaded, ultimately disappering as they finished? I think that would get me some points, right?
Well, it got me a few, and then she said what about making the site pretty? Oh well, that will be next, in the meantime the app is below.
**This code is just a sample and is not intended to teach proper coding techniques, but more to demonstrate what can be accomplished after only a few hours with AIR.**
