LiveCycle Data Services (LCDS), BlazeDS and Flex 3

Apr 10 by Michael Benner

First the beta of LCDS ES 2.6 is available (link at the end).

Now, with that out of the way, I am at a quandary. I am learning Flex 3 as I write this and was getting ready to venture into the realm of LCDS (with ColdFusion) and BlazeDS. Do I play with beta (were bugs are likely to lurk) or just go to Blaze for now?

I am going to just use BlazeDS. While I am aware of the differences, I am afraid that playing with a "beta" product (LCDS 2.6) while trying to educate myself is almost like playing with fire blindfolded. I am excited for the features that LCDS offers beyond BlazeDS, but if I get my feet wet with BlazeDS then when I step into those items, the beta will have been around a touch longer and I will have a better understanding.

So for those of you want the beta here is the link, and I hope to see you in the trenches soon.

Andy Matthews's Gravatar BlazeDS is no longer a Beta product. It's a 1.0 release. My company is preparing to use it in an internal messaging app, launching today as a matter of fact.

Mike Benner's Gravatar Yes, sorry I wasn't more clear. That is why I am going to learn using BlazeDS, because it a 1.0 release and LCDS 2.6 is beta.

Michael Porter's Gravatar I think playing with the Beta should be fine. The core features should be stable. If you are wanting to use data sync, then BlazeDS is not the tool to use. Also once you learn LCDS; BlazeDS is just a subset.
