Coldfusion 8 Day 1.5
Aug 6 by Michael Benner
So after fighting with adobe.com I was finally able to download Coldfusion 8.
[RANT] If you are going to require that data be in a users profile to download and use your site and you are the leader in web based technology, make sure there is no possible way to have that data be missing. And if you do over look that feature, make sure that when the site errors it tells you the real reason and your user does not have to guess and have some develop knowledge to figure out what went wrong. [/RANT]
Now for those that don't know on Friday I tried to download and install CF8 on my current development server.
Every time I tried to download it from any machine I got either no error/response in FireFox and I got a CF Error in IE 7. The error said something about ORGANIZATIONAL_INFO missing/not available. After some digging and experimenting I realized the other day Adobe had asked me to update that information when I first signed in and I did, or so I thought. It appears I caught them in a transition that deleted old info and improperly stored new info. Once I logged in and updated my old info in the profile, that fixed the world.
This never should have happened and especially from Adobe, but on a good note, I did finally get to download CF 8 and the install was the easiest yet. It ran great and updated all my settings from CFMX 7. It appears to be running faster and I have yet to find any problems with my CFMX 7 code.
I am going to be using the PDF features over this week, and will be reporting on those.
