The Switch: Day 0 {Software Issue 7}

May 25 by Michael Benner

Adobe Coldfusion. The best RAD Language for the Web. That's right I said it. Right, it is not free. Yup, it runs on J2EE (no this is not a flaw). Yes, Adobe bought Macromedia. Anything else negative you want to say?

I have used CF since release 4 (that was when I left ASP, COM Object and Trans Server behind) and will never leave it. It has grown and become a staple of my life. But I am leaving Windows, what am I going to do.

Well, fortunately for me, Coldfusion 7 will run on Mac OSX. The biggest problem is as addressed before, is SQL Server. Solution? MySQL. I have never tried it, used it and like most developers that have access to MS SQL, I have shunned it. I am willing to eat my words (as long as it works). Look for coverage on this maybe around Day 4 or 5.

By the way...3.5 hours and counting...
